After six years of development and three years in early access, Baldur's Gate 3 has been officially released on PC. The release took place on August 3, 2023. Players can now download the full version of the game, which occupies approximately 122 GB. Larian Studios, the developers, advised players to remove the early access version of Baldur's Gate 3, along with any saves and mods, to avoid potential issues.
Baldur's Gate 3 is an expansive role-playing game based on the 5th edition of Dungeons & Dragons. Players can choose a pre-made hero with a well-crafted background or create their own character, embarking on a journey through the Forgotten Realms.
In the game's storyline, the protagonist is kidnapped by a race of Illithids and has a larva inserted into their brain, gradually transforming them into a Mind Flayer while awakening mysterious abilities. The hero manages to escape and joins forces with other characters who have suffered the same fate. The player must then decide whether to resist the parasite or embrace the path of evil.
Larian Studios has emphasized that Baldur's Gate 3 offers unparalleled freedom of choice, with the game world reacting to all actions and decisions made by the player. There are at least 10 different final scenarios and 17,000 variations of the ending available in the game.
Baldur's Gate 3 is available on PC through Steam and GOG. The game will be released on PS5 on September 6, 2023, and on Xbox Series X|S at a later date.
Following the release of Baldur's Gate 3, a Twitch promotional campaign has begun, allowing players to obtain special cosmetic items for their camp through the Twitch Drops program. To participate, viewers must watch qualifying channels for at least two hours between August 3 and August 17.
In a previous interview with Bloomberg, Larian's CEO, Sven Vincke, stated that he has no plans to sell the studio.
